Pride of Shankill Battle of the bands - 20/11/09

We headed across town to attend the hosts Battle of the bands contest.

We were in the same group as the Drumaheagles and Pride of the Maine who are well respected in band circles. The Ballymena beat is right up my street, we always admired this style. The hall itself to my surprise wasn't at all full, but a steady crowd drifted in and out.

We were the first band on. We played a new indoor routine or "set" as they are known. We included new tunes such as Sapper Hill, Drunken Sailor and our own version of Minstral Boy. It was hard for me to judge our display but anything we played was up to scratch. I was very pleased with our performance.

Below are a selection of photographs of the band in action.

Pride of the Maine were up after us. They played with 5 drummers and 11 flautists to a very high standard. I enjoyed their routine with the Ballymena beat at its best. Well done to one of the most known bands in the Country, POTM.

Last but not least was Drumaheagles. They are one of my favourite bands. They played with 6 drummers and 16 flautists. A first class routine and i personally love their style. They aren't a well known band around Belfast but they put on a good show anywhere. Well done to Raymond and the Heagles on their performance tonight.

The results are as follows:
1st - East Belfast Protestant Boys
2nd - Drumaheagles
3rd - Pride of the Maine

We attended tonight with 6 drummers, 2 bass drummers and 20 flautists.

Well done to the Pride of Shankill on a good night.
